Waiting for Summer.

To be honest, there's only two things I like about winter, skiing and Christmas. I hate being cold, I would take a ridiculously hot stuffy room over a cold room any day.  I often wear summer clothing in winter, like sundresses and flip-flops, with hopes that the weather gods will let up on the freezing Utah climate. I love spending my time outside, playing with my little brother or just laying in the grass, but until then, I'm in a process of waiting. Waiting for the sizzling summer days, luminous colors and succulent fruit.

Summer nights have to be my favorite part of summer, because they're not just a noun or an idea, they're a feeling, an intoxicating whirling daze that dissolves to quickly, like a puff of pink cotton candy. At times, I feel like there's a palpable purring drifting in the air during the night, even if it's just an invisible thought in my mind.  I have my own special place just to enjoy that thought, a roof used for eating gooey melted ice cream and gazing at the stars.

Music is another summer medium, a lot of times a song will remind me of the season i first listened to a particular song in, this happens most during the hottest season. Some songs are like a three or four minute time machine, taking me back to vivid memories.

I feel like this song is a good example of reminiscing summer. Whenever I hear this song I remember dancing in the car with my cousin, the radio pumped to the maximum volume and the uncomfortable expression on my step mothers face.

So until May 24, I'll be here, anticipating swimsuit season, sunglasses and crisp invigorating sunsets.

  1. I really like how you think about the winter and what you wish would happen. I don't know if i like the summer more than the winter because the winter has snow and snow is so much fun to play in.

  3. “they're not just a noun or an idea, they're a feeling, an intoxicating whirling daze that dissolves to quickly, like a puff of pink cotton candy.” That's an amazing sentence, I love it. Like the sweetness of the pink cotton candy, melting me in the 100F summer night.
Most of my irreplaceable memories are in the summer time.Summer for me is the crowd in the street squishing me all over the place. I enjoy it but I love autumn better.
